Utilizing ESRI's ArcIMS® technology, School Locator™is a Web based mapping application. It provides a valuable public service and also greatly reduces the number of inquiries a District receives regarding pupil placement. School Locator™ was developed specifically to meet the needs of each community's parents. moreIn 2007 Beaumont Independent School District in Texas experienced some major demographic changes. After Hurricane Katrina there was an influx of students from the New Orleans area that put a strain on District facilities. Numerous students had to be housed at temporary locations such as the local sports arena. A few months later Hurricane Rita ravaged the area and there were mass evacuations.
School Planner™ has been assisting the District with planning efforts in dealing with the aftermath as students return to their homes. Managing pupil placement and bringing schools back online have been significant issues for the District in the wake of two hurricanes. School Planner™ has provided the analytical tools that help District staff make the most of limited resources.
