Oakland Police Launch
CyberWatch™
July 10, 2007
-- Oakland Police Department in California recently
launched their CrimeView Community® application with a new
feature. CyberWatch™ is a Web based public service
tool. It allows members of the general public to receive information
about recent incident activity in any area through their existing
e-mail account. Here's how it works:
1.
Users sign up for the service online - the type of incidents can be
specified as well as the address to search from. The search radius
can range from 1/4 mile to 1 mile in distance.
2. E-mails arrive - an e-mail alert is sent to the user
anytime the specific incident or incidents requested have occurred
in the search radius within the last 24 hours. If no incidents have
occurred the e-mail is not sent.
Each e-mail alert contains
a report outlining what type of incidents occurred as well as when
and where they occured. The e-mail alert will also contain a link
directly to the on-line mapping application (CrimeView® Community)
that depicts the results of the requested query.
CyberWatch™
can be installed as added functionality within any existing
CrimeView® Community application. CyberWatch™ can help neighbors
look out for each other as well as aid in existing community
oriented policing efforts.
